Who Were They?

Lost and forgotten photos from the past

Yippy ki yi yay!

Yippy ki yi yay!

Here are Tommy & Margaret, or possibly the children of Tommy & Margaret, December 1957. The boy has a wonderful cowboy hat and embroidered cowboy shirt, complete with a ranch hand twirling a rope on the right shoulder and possibly a horse on the left. This style was a huge fashion trend for boys and girls in the 1950s, and I bet he also had the little six shooters and holsters. The little baby girl is wearing an adorable bonnet and munching on a teething ring. Old fashioned teething rings are nothing like our modern, gummy soft ones! They were hard plastic and many, like this one, featured a bell.

Three kids all with various teeth growing in

Here we have Billy on the left, Shelley on the right and Big Sister in the middle who rebelled and did not wear her personalized pajamas. The children all have teeth growing in at some stage – Billy is missing his lower tooth, Big Sister has her upper incisors growing in, and baby Shelley only has two teeth. The family was Kay and Bill Spurgeon, Billy, Big Sis and Shelley.

Little Dale and his stocking

Little Dale and his stocking

This little guy named Dale is in his creepers, showing off his stocking and looking back to Mama or Papa. The fire is lit in the fireplace, there is a candle on the mantle…the scene is well set for the arrival of Santa Claus. The family was signed as Dorothy, Norm and Dale.

From the Nelsons

From the Nelsons

Here’s Ozzy, Harriet, Wally, and….nope, not *those* Nelsons, sorry!

A winter scene replete with Santa Claus greets us along side a happy family looking off toward Santa to check up on what he is doing. The children look like a boy and a girl to me. I love love love Mr Nelson’s funky tie!

Still guessing

Still guessing

This happy family posed in front of a tree for their Christmas picture. The parents and three small children look happy in the sunshine. One of the parents was a smart alec and signed their card “Guess who :-)”  Well, we shall remain guessing after all these years!
