This lovely photograph shows us Lulu Wheaton, February 5, 1893 at the age of 22 years. I found a record for Lulu Wheaton indicating that she worked for the American Biscuit & Manufacturing Co, and then was married in 1895 to Lee J Bowman. This is an interesting little mystery. I found a record from 1904 that Lulu and Lee had divorced, and a later record that Lee had remarried to Lola Moody in 1913. After that point, I found that Lulu reported she was either single or widowed on the census records until 1940. I didn’t find any additional records of Lulu and Lee remarrying. Lulu was a forewoman for the Rood Candy Co in 1919. She rented a space from another family as a lodger in 1930, but by 1940 she owned her own home and had a lodger herself. She also reported she had not worked in 1939. In 1944, she died, although I did not find a record of the cause. The records are difficult to sort because of Lee’s second wife’s name being so similar to his first, plus the fact that Lulu Wheaton is a surprisingly common name around that time.
