Who Were They?

Lost and forgotten photos from the past

To go along with the recent post European CdV, here we have a European lady, photographed by Fr Poppr. Iggy figured out that Vinohrady Weinberge is likely one location in Prague, Czechoslovakia. The dress is quite pretty. I picture it in a wine colored wool with cream and yellow medallions. She is holding a fan, a rather common practice to give added interest to the photo.

  2. Beautiful CdV, the dress is striking..yes wine colored but wool would not drape like that on the arms would it? None the less it is a wonderful photo:)

A light weight wool would, but perhaps you are right and this may be silk taffeta or even at that time they had rayon, but I don’t know how common it was.

Invented in 1884 in France, rayon was originally named artificial silk or wood silk, but the name rayon was created in 1924.

Commercial prodcut of “rayon” started in 1891.
