Who Were They?

Lost and forgotten photos from the past

This is a real photo postcard with the AZO arrows pointing up, so it can be dated to 1904-1918. I’d venture to guess the photo is from the teens based on the giant bow in the older sister’s hair. There is something really unusual about the look of the baby. I hate to say this is an ugly baby but s/he isn’t all that cute either. Hopefully it was just a phase.

I see what you mean – that baby doesn’t seem too happy. The young girl, on the otherhand is pretty.

Did you notice the scribbing on the side of the house behind her? I wonder what it says (said). These people seem pretty poor – no shoes and scruffy paint around the window – but the lace in the window looks nice.

I agree they do not seem like a wealthy family, or the girl could be in her down and dirty play clothes. As to the writing on the siding, my daughter was playing with chalk the other day so that is what I see there.

  3. I see a traveling photographer taking photos outside of a school and these kids were brought into town for a photo. They look like street urchins:(
