This is Frank Buxton, as identified by the unknown writer. The ink is ballpoint so this is a somewhat recent addition to the photo. How these photos later found themselves for sale on ebay I have no idea. Again, this is a difficult name to search because there were many Frank Buxton’s living in or born in Michigan! Who knew?
The photographer was J. M. Brigham. On this historic map of Planwell dated 1895, I was able to find the plot of land he owned at the corner of Bridge & Prince streets, and on a Google map, there is still a residence located there. Makes you wonder if it was the same house where he had his business. The somewhat long property directly to the left of J. M. Brigham’s home was also owned by a Brigham – a family that has a very long history in America, having come over in 1635!
Who Were They? 
Applying Occam’s Razor, I checked the census records for a Frank Buxton living in Plainwell, Allegan County, Michigan in the 1890s and find only one.
The 1920 United States Census and other records show:
Frank E Buxton 48y (b. 1872 d. June 15, 1960)
Gertrude E Buxton (nee Hope) 47y (b. 1874 married Nov. 28 1900)
-son Charles H Buxton M 12y (b. 1908)
Unfortunately, on Jan 02, 1904, Frank E. Junior died as an infant.
I wonder which street Frank lived on? The old map you found is facinating. :)

More info on son “Chuck”:
Charles H. Buxton (b. 30-Jul-1906 in Gunplain (neighboring Plainwell) MI d. 01-May-1986 at age 79 in nearby Kalamazoo, MI). He was married to Thelma M. (b. abt 1910) just before 1930. Charles’ grandfather was a farmer named Henry – so perhaps his middle name is “Henry”. Charles’ father was a custodian. Chuck own/operated Plainwell Electric along with Russell Jackson (who was related, he was Thelma’s brother). I’ve not been able to determine if Chuck and Thelma had any children.
