I do not know who Nora was, but this is her home in Victoria, Texas. On the back was written “side and garage view.” All I can say is if that is the house, Nora was doing pretty well! That house is gorgeous! The car is a 20s vintage or so. Nice!
My dad told me that his grandfather was a dairy farmer, with lots of cows on a large farm. He and his wife (who I take my nom de plume from, Mrs Marvel) lived on the farm with their seven children. In the summers, my dad would work on the farm along side his uncles and aunts – the youngest of which was four years older than my dad. I can’t say for certain if they had this type of a milk wagon, but Uncle Bob and Dad once told us about hauling away wagon loads of “old junk” to the dump, which would have consisted of all sorts of old farm implements, wagon parts, tack, etc.
Here we have three photos from different sources that I believe show the progress of filling the hay rick. First, we see an empty hay rick with a big pile of hay behind it. Yes, this may have been the end but humor me, since it is a nice picture of an empty hay rick.
This one, I can’t be sure exactly what it is, but it looks like loading the hay rick, or possibly putting harvested wheat into a thresher?
Finally we have a full hay rick with the notation “Donald Hintz” on it. I assume that is he standing on the back of the wagon.
Being a city girl, I don’t know an awful lot about farming, so if you know more than I do, please chime in with a comment to correct me if I’m wrong.
