Today’s photo is an example of a little girl, dressed in her pretty pinafore dress. Pinafores were very common for young children – both boys and girls. They helped to protect clothing from messy play and potentially messy chores, such as inky schoolwork or helping in the barn. Pinafores could more easily be laundered, thereby preserving the dresses underneath for longer period of wear. This sweet, round faced child sits carefully in the chair. Her feet just barely hang off the edge of the seat. It is unfortunate the image isn’t more clear as I’d like to see her face and clothing a bit more clearly.
