Who Were They?

Lost and forgotten photos from the past

Take a look at this handsome young lad of about 4 or 5. He is nicely dressed, from the hat he is holding to the shined shoes. It is unfortunate that he is unidentified, as I’m sure the family cherished this photograph. The lower edge has been torn, but it’s still evident that the corners are square, so we are still in the 1860s.

The photographer was N. Bechlar at the Union Gallery, 202 1/2 Main Street, Norristown, PA. You will note the rates listed on the back of the card – cartes de visite (small photographs) 12 for $1.00.
