Who Were They?

Lost and forgotten photos from the past

W. L. Philpott

Mailed to Mr W. L. Philpott

A smiling Santa Claus climbs the chimney in this vintage postal card. His suit is trimmed with white fur, his beard is bushy and his sack is full of toys. The chimney of red brick has snow around it.

The card was mailed but the postmark is not clear, so beyond 19xx I can’t tell you an exact year. I suspect it was in the 1900s however, because another card was mailed to the same family during that same time frame.

This one was addressed to Mr W. L. Philpott of Englewood TN, on Route 3. The note reads:

“Hello Grandpa”

I hope “Santa” will treat you kindly this Christmas. Hope you will have a good time. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, from Mabel D.
