This photo is of another infant in a chair, this particular chair draped with a black cloth and the siding of the house used for the backdrop. Does this look similar to our recent photo that looked like a couple of street urchins? The photo itself is 3.5×4.5 and the card is 4×7. You can see the embossing on the black card in what might have been an oval shape, with the rectangle baby photo pasted over that. I don’t know if that is something this particular photographer did. Perhaps he had a lot of these cards left over? It isn’t a cabinet card but it’s also not a CdV. What exactly would this be called?
I’m pretty convinced this is “unhappy baby” of the “street urchins” duo. I think that big hat in the previous picture covered up that “bald and knobby” head.

They purchased the card stock in bulk. Some like this one was meant to mount an oval photo. Apparently the photo would not have been suitable to crop into an oval so he left it square and used the card stock anyway. I had one of two women that used a similar card..and they turned it sideways to accomidate both women in the photo..but it looks totally off center. I would guess that this photog was in a hurry or using what he had on hand.
I am not sure what to call the card..a presentation card? The glue they used back then was awesome..many of the photos that I have in similar card stock are from 1900 to 1910.
