One day in the fall of 1935 or so, Dennis Harrington and his buddies on the “L” football team stopped their practice long enough for this team photograph. There are 32 boys and two coaches. Their faces are universal “boy” faces, from Everytown USA. With only a few changes to the uniforms and helmets, this photograph could have been staged last fall instead of 75 years ago.
Time stands still and yet tempis fugit.
The photo comes from an antique store in Orange, CA but we don’t have school buildings like the one in the photo. So, this must be from elsewhere, which is incredibly common. Who Were They? 
Judging from the heights of the boys they look like they should be in middle school. None of them are taller than the coaches.

Could this be Dennis G Harrington (b. 03-Feb-1933 d. 16-Jun-2001 at age 68 in Lawrence, Van Buren, MI)? He was born a bit later than your photo dating. Lawrence (and not Lawton which is only a few miles away) MI has named all their school teams the Lawrence Tigers.

Since my photo dating is a wild guess, I would not be surprised at all if this is THE Dennis Harrington. The building does look very similar.

Sports’ teams look the same all over the world, unless you are in them yourself. How come then that the fourth from the left in the back row looks like me in my youth? I wasn’t even born when it was taken.

Great old photo..I was in a shop today..and got one bare shoulder child photo and a couple of the of bookmark type photos…as soon as I tell you I have never seen anything like it..then I find some myself. It was a good shopping trip..I have a new mystery for next winter when the months get long:)
The building looks Midwestern, and it must have been a school of a considerable size to have that many boys almost the same age:)

I know what you mean about stopping long enough to have the photograph taken, but I bet it was quite an undertaking. Getting them all in place, getting them to sit still : no easy task with lads of that age.

When I was on the yearbook class my senior year we decided to not allow the sports teams to pose in their uniforms. Everyone had to be in a casual pose. Boy did this tick off the jocks.
