This CDV is smaller than any I have seen before. It’s about 1/2 of the size of a typical CDV as a matter of fact. Coming in at 3 1/8″ x 1 5/8″ it has a slight curve to the card, rounded corners and is the thickness of a typical post-1870 CDV. The young girl photographed was unfortunately wearing a dress that has been washed out by the exposure, so we can’t get much detail to suggest a date. I’m leaning toward 1880s-1890s, but that’s just because there appear to be ruffles on her dress bodice and those were more popular during those decades. You may also see that she is wearing a necklace with a large pendant, perhaps a locket.
The photographer was Thayer in Austin, IL.
