Today’s photograph is identified as Van Sickle, West. I assume that means that the first name was lost to the ages. This lady kind of looks like the mother in yesterday’s photograph. What do you think? She is wearing pince nez spectacles that have a little chain that wraps probably around her ear, which was a known method to keep track of one’s glasses.
On the back corner of this cabinet card was written:
Taken Dec 24, 1889. Do you think this is the same woman or not?

Who Were They? 
She does look very much like the other woman.
The Van Sickle family of Cayuga County, NY also started in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Its difficult to tell who is related to whom – except that one of the Van Sickles was married to one of the Robersons (Gertrude Rittenhouse married Elijah H. Roberson when her sister Jane who married him first, died.) Elijah was the son of William K. Roberson and Mary Leigh.
Both Jane and Gertrude were daughters of Benjamin Rittenhouse and Elizabeth Roberson (daughter of John R Roberson and Lovina Thatcher)
Elizabeth Roberson (the daughter of John R Roberson and Lovina Thatcher) had a sister Catherine, that married John Van Sickle.
John Van Sickle died on February 20, 1861 in Cayuga Co, New York, at 81 years of age. He and Catherine had a daughter, Lavina Van Sickle, born Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ November 2, 1820. She married twice. She married John R. Powers January 4, 1843. John was born about 1820. She married James Everitt May 18, 1853. She might be the “Mrs. Everest” you posted previously.
Unfortunately, I can’t tell who the woman in the photograph might be. I assume she is about 30/40-ish in 1889, making her born about 1850-1860.
I get massively confused with all the “cross family” marriages.

Just to confuse matters more –
http://thegodowns.com/d14/i0010839.htm#i10839 tells us that Elizabeth Roberson (Benjamin) Rittenhouse (the mother of Jeremiah Rittenhouse who was Amy T. Rittenhouse Mearns father)
had one sister, Catherine, that married John Van Sickle (as commented previously)
and another sister, Sarah who died August 20, 1887 in Auburn, Cayuga Co, married William Van Sickle. William died August 8, 1872 in Auburn, Cayuga Co, New York.
and another sister, Lavinia Roberson who a William West about 1810, but they seem to have just stayed in NJ.

I wish these people had married outside of the group, ha ha. I agree it is confusing!! And, I wonder also, could the person who wrote in the names have thought this was a Van Sickle-West instead of Van Sickle, West?

I assumed it meant the person doing the labelling wasn’t sure if this was “Great-Auntie Van Sickle or Great-Auntie West”
